 ********************

After many years of organising group dance holidays in Cuba, surrounding ourselves with Cuban people and understanding their daily life, it became obvious that Cuba had so much more to offer than just dance alone.

One of the frequent things we hear from previous guests is that they wish the holiday was longer or that there was more free time to enable them to experience alternative aspects of real Cuban life – this is how the new concept of Raw Cuba was born.

Each Raw Cuba holiday will be unique. We’ll be visiting different areas of Cuba and experiencing different things, incorporating different activities as we venture.

In Cuba, one thing you can be certain of is that no two holidays will ever be the same – it’s all part of the excitement!

WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE

This is a twin destination of Havana and Viñales, City and Countryside –  two contrasting UNESCO heritage sites. This holiday will open your eyes away from the tourist image of Cuba and give you an enriching experience and a profound understanding of the strong Cuban culture. You’ll learn how daily life is shaped with music, dance, religion, food and the importance of family; learn about daily struggles and how music and dance have given the Cubanos such resilience.

Gain a better understanding of Cuba’s rich history and how the Revolution has shaped the country and its people into what we see today. Experience the local day to day life as we take you to places tourists don’t know about, maybe you fancy a Cuban haircut or a trip to the local fruit market to taste fruits you haven’t seen before – anything is possible on this holiday!

Of course we’ll be doing all those fun touristy things too! There’s nothing quite like seeing a line of 1950’s American classic cars relaxing on the corner of Parque Central like it’s no big deal, casually waiting for you to jump in and breeze down the Malecon with the wind in your hair. Or strolling the streets of Habana Vieja, stopping for a refreshing  Mojito or Daiquari at Earnest  Hemmingway’s favourite bar -Bodeguita del Medio whilst being serenaded by an impromptu three man band in the street!

The real beauty of Cuba is that feeling that time has stood still. In Havana the grandeur of the once magnificent buildings now decayed and crumbling have so many stories to tell while those famous 1950’s Classic cars go about their business transporting locals from one place to the next as the fruit cart rattles down the rickety road and a bici-taxi (3 wheel bicycle transport) rattles past blasting Reggaeton from the homemade sound system. On the corner the commotion you can hear isn’t a fight as you might first think but a game of Dominos – this is serious entertainment!

As you look across the street the pulsating rhythms of Salsa spill out from a private home while the kids play baseball in the street. As you walk down the Prado you’ll marvel at the talent of the street artists before eventually reaching the Maelcon – the eight mile stretch of sea wall where locals gather to pass the time of day, kids swim, lovers meet, fishermen wait patiently, musicians strum, while others debate Cuba’s woes – the Malecon is the hub of activity and the perfect place to watch the sun go down.

On your two night visit to Viñales you will experience the natural wonders of this area, take a boat ride through the hidden caves and enjoy a swim in the purest lakes before enjoying a freshly prepared, organic Peasant’s lunch with all ingredients straight from the land.

You’ll enjoy a gentle horseback ride (you can also walk if you prefer) through the tobacco plantations to a local farm where you’ll learn how the world famous Cuban cigars are made, you’ll be able to sample these at their freshest (naturally with a swig of rum for authenticity!) and enjoy some homemade honey. You will begin to understand the way of life of the Guajiros (farming cowboys). This will be followed by another scrumptious lunch washed down with local fresh juices. The Guajiros looking after us love to exchange stories over a rum and cigar, you’ll leave feeling like part of the family! Then we’ll take a short ride across to the much photographed Mural de la Prehistorica.

When night falls it’s time to sample the nightly entertainment in the town square where the locals gather to dance Salsa and drink local rum.

If, after the night before you can rise early enough, we will take a gentle hike to the top of Los Acuaticos and watch the sunrise over the 3 valleys for our final soul-enriching experience in Viñales.

During your free time you’ll also have use of the lovely hotel pool which sits in a magnificent position overlooking the lush valley and farms.

We work directly with the farmers of Viñales, in doing so your money goes directly into the local communities helping to build better facilities and water supplies.

Summary

As a communist country Cuba has many struggles but its people are resilient to the core and incredibly inspiring. With an open mind and a sense of humour you will be rewarded with a unique experience that will tattoo itself in to your heart and mind.

Day 12
Free Day.

Day 13
Depart for the airport.

Havana: Hotel Sevilla, 4-Star, Bed & Breakfast
The Sevilla, located in a fabulous position opposite the famous tree-lined Prado in Old Havana is a hotel rich in history and within walking distance to all main tourist sights.
The Sevilla was frequented by Cuban high society since its birth in 1908. The 1930’s saw the notorious mobster Santo Trafficante buying shares in the hotel while Al Capone and his Mob rented out the 6th floor while they were in Havana looking after their business interests. Rumour has it that there is a secret tunnel linking the hotel to the former Presidential Palace.

Today the Sevilla is a simple hotel with the faded glamour and grandeur of the Mafia days. The atmosphere in this hotel is something quite special.
It also has the largest outdoor pool of any hotel in Havana with plenty of space to relax and unwind (a rarity in Havana). A good sized gym, restaurant, pool bar, snack bar, live music every day and the palatial rooftop restaurant with fabulous 360 degree views over Havana.
It also has an enclosed parade of shops running from the Prado to the hotel.

Sevilla Bedrooms
Bedrooms are furnished in a simple colonial style throughout, offering either 1 king size bed or twin beds and private bathroom, mini bar, satellite TV, hairdryer, safety deposit box and air conditioning.

Viñales: Los Jazmines 3-star, Bed and Breakfast
Los Jazmines is a peaceful hotel located in a breath-taking location surrounded by spectacular views of the Viñales valley. It is one of few hotels in Viñales and the only one with an outdoor pool and facilities. It boasts a large patio and restaurant perfect for watching the sunset over the valley while sipping a mojito and marvelling at the ‘Mogotes’ which rise almost vertically out of the valley. Here you can see the Oxen ploughing the plantations and the tobacco drying houses.

Los Jazmines Bedrooms
All rooms are en-suite with air conditioning and fitted with classic furniture and flat screen TVs. Junior suite upgrades are available on request.

You will learn about their daily search for food supplies, visit a local fruit market, sample some unusual fruits and local delicacies. Visit a ration shop and a local bakery. See what a real Cuban furniture or clothes shop looks like, visit a local barber for a quick Cuban style haircut or maybe have your nails painted Cuban style. This is a first-hand experience far away from what tourists usually experience!
This evening we’re making our own party on a beautiful roof top terrace. Our expert Cuban bartenders will show you how to make the perfect Cuban cocktails, then you’ll make one of your choice! Our Cuban dancers will be joining us and we’ll be dancing the night away!

Day 11
Your final dance class of the holiday!
This afternoon is free for you to enjoy at your leisure.
This evening we will have a final group meal at a local Paladar to watch the sunset over Havana for the final time. Tonight all our Cuban teachers and guides will be invited to join us for a final farewell night of dancing and cocktails!

Day 12
Free Day.

Day 13
Depart for the airport.

Accommodation

Peace of Mind

HOLIDAY PROTECTION – PEACE OF MIND

Eagle Activity Tours on behalf of Raw Cuba holidays has been trading since 1998 as an independent Tour Operator with full bonding and protection in place.

The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations require travel companies to provide security for the monies that consumers pay for certain types and combinations of travel arrangements booked with them and for consumers’ repatriation in the event of their insolvency. We provide this protection by way of a trust account controlled and administered by an independent firm of travel specialist solicitors. All money that you pay to us for travel arrangements requiring financial protection will be paid into a separate and designated Trust bank account and will remain there until you have completed your contracted travel arrangements. This means that in respect of all arrangements requiring protection, in the event of our insolvency, funds will be available to ensure that you are not left stranded abroad or will receive a refund of the money you have paid for an advance booking.

Because flights are included in this package we also have additional ATOL protection.
